AWS Academy Cloud Foundations

Organizations of every type, size and industry are using the cloud for a wide variety of functions. This class is intended for students who seek an overall understanding of these cloud computing concepts. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, Amazon Web Services (AWS) core services, security, architecture, pricing and support. This Foundations class is required for further AWS study in any of the specialization classes (Developer, Solutions Architect, Operations). The course is self-paced and online. Weekly Zoom meetings will be offered each Monday at 6:30 p.m. from September 27 through November 15. The instructor is available to answer questions and provide assistance through the end of the quarter. Course must be completed by 12/16/21. Online study materials included with the course at no additional cost, and you also have the option to register with Amazon for their exam ($50). If you pass the exam, you will get a certificate of completion. Prerequisite: Introduction to CompTIA A+ or general IT technical and business knowledge, plus good internet access. Course Objectives: You will be able to define the AWS Cloud, explain the AWS pricing philosophy, identify the global infrastructure components of AWS, describe the security and compliance measures of the AWS Cloud, including AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), create a virtual private cloud (VPC) by using Amazon VPC, demonstrate when to use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), AWS Lambda, and AWS Elastic Beanstalk. In addition, you'll differentiate between Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service Glacier, as well as learn when to use AWS database services, including Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Aurora. You'll be able to explain the architectural principles of the AWS Cloud and explore key concepts related to Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling.
