Virginia Paquette

Virginia Paquette

An MFA graduate in painting from the University of Washington, Virginia Paquette has worked and exhibited internationally. Her art frequently depicts a sense of movement and change, and is inspired by natural forms and phenomena. Winner of numerous public art commissions, Paquette recently completed an environmental installation celebrating regional history and education for the Washington State Arts Commission/Art in Public Places project, on the campus of Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen WA.

Abstract art does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks its inspiration from within, using shapes, lines, colors and textures.

Courses Taught

Abstract Drawing from Flowers

Free, beautiful, expressive, personal: This is abstract drawing! This course is based on using traditional drawing materials in black and white and color (such as graphite and pastels), mixing media, and developing a good understanding of design elements and principles. It combines demonstrations, discussion, and lots of drawing. Abstract drawing describes the internal world, and speaks poetically of internal realities like feelings, imagination, and spirit. Your favorite flowers will provide the source of inspiration for the abstraction. See Textbooks and Supplies for supply list.

Abstract Watercolors

Combine the expressive, personal, object-free vision of abstraction with the smaller, particular, intimate beauty of watercolors. Discover the elements of design, the language of color and harmony, line, shape and space, and how to create a compelling painting that expresses an inner vision. Often alluding to nature or a state of mind, abstract watercolors will carry the painter to the beauty of feelings, spirit, and imagination. Click for supply list.

Painting and Abstraction

Discover the art of modern life: learn a new way of thinking and seeing, and create dynamic Abstract paintings. Express your inner self in your work with this more personal and expressive mode of painting. This introductory class is designed to explore the basics of style and structure, and the simple concepts behind the actions, working in acrylics and mixed media. This course is for those who wish to work in oils or acrylics. Both mediums and materials will be explained and the painting concepts and processes are the same. Both mediums are used with “green” techniques, including no solvents.
